and geochemical investigation)
Sedimentological and geochemical data by numerous researchers have demonstrated that this type of corer consistently obtains undisturbed cores and preserves the sediment/water interface. By using a square cross-section, sample retainer doors fold up inside the core tube to allow unrestricted passage of sediment during penetration. A small overlap of the doors maintains the sample as the core tube is withdrawn from the bottom. A 30 kg sliding weight promotes vertical orientation of the corer by lowering the center of mass of the corer during descent and slides up the core barrel during penetration into the seabed. The sliding weight is attached to the weight stand by lines and is positioned approximately 50 cm above the nose piece to minimize the "bow wave". Corer retrieval is significantly improved by using the sliding weight. Five individually removable box fronts are provided on each core tube for quick and easy access to the core sample. The core tube is secured to the weight stand by two safety pins. Shipping weight approximately 150 kg. A special stainless steel frame with integral gimbal is an optional item that helps maintain the corer's vertical penetration into the bottom. The frame (Box Corer type) guides and steadies the corer during insertion and withdrawal. Call for details.
